Bode Omojola, Editor

Bode Omojola is the Hammond-Douglass Five College Professor of Music. He holds a joint appointment with Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in the United States. A former Radcliffe Fellow in Musicology at Harvard University, Omojola obtained his PhD from the University of Leicester in England. His publications include Yoruba Music in the Twentieth Century: Identity, Agency and Performance Practice (2012) and Nigerian Art Music (1995). Compositions include his Studies in African Pianism and Three Yoruba Sacred Songs both of which are published by Bayreuth African Studies, Germany (2003). His most recent opera, Funmilayo, was premiered in April 2023 in the United States by the Mount Holyoke Symphony Orchestra and Five College African opera students, conducted by Ng Tian Hui. The opera is based on the life of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti (1900-1978).
